i’m proud to announce that my personal portfolio is up and running! you can find my illustrations, photos, samples of graphic novels, video showreel and several written works here:
if you have feedback on the layout or content, do not hesitate to message me! and feel free to share this post if you want to spread the love. :)
also, i’m looking for proofreaders / critiques on my writing. you can find more info in the ABOUT section.
many thanks again to my friend Natasja for the creation of Periferal.nl!
i don’t usually reblog gifs or other’s works to my own art blog (i have a separate inspiration tumblr at http://lifemachine-inspiration.tumblr.com) but i’m making an exception for this. i have no idea where it’s from, but i’ve been staring at it for a minute or so and i absolutely love it.
now that we’re on the point of separate blogs, i would kindly like to point out that i’m also reblogging material for a graphic novel project of mine called Weaker Sides. it’s a lot of deer, forests, wolves, some bondage and surrealism and yes, a bit of Lady Gaga. feel free to take a look at http://weaker-sides.tumblr.com
and the blog the conquests of sir shiverspine is mine as well, focusing on male beauty, androgyny and vulnerability / tenderness / cruelty.
i wish you all a great weekend!
Love,
Falco / lifemachine

my friend Natasja’s working hard on my portfolio and it’s looking great already! i can’t wait to show it to the world. thanks so much Natasja! :-)
haruki murakami must be my favorite writer (and has been for several years). do you guys feel the same? if so, which of his books do you love the most?
it’s hard for me to choose, but when i read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle i was lost in another world. (then again, i usually prefer a long story over a short one if the quality is the same - sometimes i get so engrossed in a short story that i feel sad or even angry when it ends).
another favorite of mine is A Wild Sheep Chase, though i was quite disappointed with its sequel. and Sputnik Sweetheart captured me, too…
so what are your favorites?
hello Tumblrpeoples,
how are you all doing? i hope you’re safe and sound, wherever you are.
i’ve been meaning to finish more commissions but first my best friend got sick and then i did as well. but i had fun taking care of her and it felt nice when she supported me while i was feeling ill. and really, i mostly just slept through the virus without feeling anything much. on the first night i awoke to an impressive thunderstorm which, combined with the weird dreams and fuzziness in my head, made me feel sort of cozy and safe.
also, i get furry support on a daily basis by my trusted feline neighbor. i think he really likes it here. (i feed him from time to time, too - heheh).
so now, back to work for a while!
right now i’m finishing all the necessary data for my professional portfolio, designed and built by my friend Natasja! it’s looking great already - i can’t tell you guys how happy i am.
for a peek into Natasja’s beautiful digital world, please visit her site or her Tumblr!
i also finished my showreel, now all i need is the label’s written permission to upload it. i edited it to a song by a dark ambient artist and i need to be sure if it’s alright for me to put it online. :-)
i submitted five pieces to the annual SPECTRUM competition!
on the 24th of January i came across a facebook post by the skilled artist Eric Fortune saying that there were only two days left to submit. i summoned all my courage and sent these five pieces (three of which are as of yet unpublished) to the USA.
let’s hope for the best - if i make it i’m going to have a party!
and many, many thanks to Liseth for helping me out with the credit card crisis!
finishing my showreel! all that’s left is selecting several illustrations to feature at the end / credits.
the neighbor’s tomcat is visiting me almost every day now. i can’t tell you how happy i am! i love all animals but cats and (wolfish) dogs can really brighten my day. this picture is from a few days ago. i call him Carmine (both as a reference to his color and one of my favorite game characters). i’ve found out i actually get more work done when he’s around, even when he’s distracting me.
he just came in again and he’s got some small wounds on his nose and ear. i’ve treated them according to the tips on a vet site and i hope he’ll be alright. they’re nothing serious, but infections are always a risk.
‘treating’ that little red furball moved me somehow. i am not the paternal kind (i don’t plan on having kids, not now and not in the future) but taking care of Carmine made me feel, forgive me the cheesiness, all warm and fuzzy. :)
do you have a furry or feathery or leathery companion? or maybe one with fins?
hi there Tumblrlovers!
what are you going to do this weekend? any fun plans?
i’ll be on a conference called the Business Bootcamp together with a good friend of mine. it’s about boosting your own business or company with all sorts of sales, time management and networking techniques. :-)
(edit: apparently i’m only allowed to ask two questions a day…seriously, Tumblr? that’s kind of stupid)
i’m an avid gamer and for years i’ve been complaining about a lack of non-white protagonists / characters in gaming. sure, there are exceptions, but the main focus of games seems to be on whites (and males, mostly). i’d like to see more diversity in games, more colors and ethnicities.
then this morning i wondered why it is that i almost always draw white people (and men, mostly…) myself. i’ve written and drawn a short story that featured an Indian protagonist and an African friend (and a semi-Chinese antagonist) some years ago, but that was about it. i actually follow several tumblrs that reblog photos of beautiful people of all sorts of non-Caucasian ethnicities because i love looking at them. i even have a specific weak spot for Indian men and Chinese / Japanese ladies, but what about drawing them?
i guess it’s time to really step out of my comfort zone. part of what stops me is lack of reference when i’m someplace else (i barely ever draw at home, behind my computer) and fear of failure. and i’m probably stuck in my template of white males.
so i just created a little Word document where i’ll write down a variety of subject matter that i want to draw more often. time to get adventurous. :-)
many years ago my parents bought me a set of oil colors. i never touched them because i thought to myself that i needed to be ‘better’ before i had the right to do so. in retrospect this seems quite silly to me - i wanted to advance in acrylics, then start using oils, but the two are quite different, so why not start right away?
either way, i messed around with the oils and i believe the paint is still fine. here you can see my ‘test’!
i’m curious what kind of tricks i can make this material perform, with time and practice…
yesterday i was given a new roommate by a friend of mine! he’ll be taking care of digitalizing my traditional works….that’s right, i got a scanner! and an A3-sized scanner at that! i can’t tell you guys how happy i am. thanks RB!
seeing as there is quite some work waiting to be taken care of, i believe i’ll be having a little scanner-party today…
i’m going to put up a variety of prints on society6 very soon! i want to figure a few things out about the financial aspects first, but that shouldn’t be too hard. are any of you on society6?
love, Falco
working on the showreel and slowly getting there! i prefer to create multiple versions and edit to a variety of tracks, though to be honest i think i’ve already chosen one (by Atrium Carceri, a dark ambient act from Scandinavia / the USA)
love, Falco
